How to Make Folded Books - by Heather Hajek Eddy

Hello friends - years ago I created a tutorial on how to make your own folded books and sold it in my (now defunct) Etsy shop. It was a blessing in my family's and my life for several years as it kept us afloat financially during some pretty lean years.

At the end of 2016, I stopped selling on Etsy for several reasons, but mostly because selling things gave me HUGE anxiety. So, I closed up that part of my life & thought everyone was finding other cool ways to fold books online & wouldn't care about my little booklet.

I have been pleasantly surprised to find many people are still interested and emails pop up in my box every so often asking if I'll ever sell it again. (Apparently, once you're on Etsy, you are FOREVER on Etsy and people can find you forever, too.)

In the spirit of paying it forward to the world, I'm making the tutorial FREELY available here on my blog. Scroll below to see the tutorial in its entirety, all for free. Eventually I'll upload all of them and maybe even be able to figure out a way to make them downloadable.

HELLO!!!!! I have an important question. Can folds be done on ultra thin pages like old bibles? I am trying to upcycle/repurpose old bibles from church into an artsy piece that might interest our congregants. Thank you

Hi Heather,
Thank you for this tutorial! It has cleared up many question for me.
I do have one question. What is the distance between the folding points on your patterns, 1/4'?, 1/8'?, 1/2'? 1'?
Ex: A Capella. Distance between 1&2, between 2&3, between 3&4, etc.
Thank you again for you gift to we bookfolders.

Charmaine, for A Capella, use the template on page 20. You can adjust the size when you print it to match your book. I made the template using fibonacci progression: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, etc. Make the distance between measurements anything you like! I usually use either 1 mm or 1/16th in. increments!
