Every Day is Valentine's Day

I didn't get married until I was 37 years old. It took me a looooooooong time to find a good man. My dating history had consisted of: You've Thrown a Monkey Wrench Into My Life But I Think I'll Marry This Teenager Instead Of You Man, I Want You to Help Me Raise My Daughter But I Don't Want to Marry You Man, and I Love You But Not Enough to Marry You Man.

Brian and I met online. Scary, huh? He sent me a Valentine's card the first week we started writing. We met in person three weeks after we started writing. We got engaged two months after we started writing. We married five months after we started writing.

Although I'd had a sense of peace in my heart when I accepted Brian's proposal, there were still many many times when I'd worried I'd jumped in too fast. People loved to tell me stories of other couples who'd met online, married and divorced.

The reason Brian and I are still married is really due to Brian. He went through a marriage already (I like to call it his Starter Marriage). He didn't want it to end but you can't fight another person's decisions all the time. For us, we agreed that we were in it for the long haul. Excluding violence or chronic cheating (and I'm sure we can come up with more deal-breakers), we were IN THIS FOR THE LONG HAUL.

There have been days, sometimes lasting for several days, where it has not been easy and I have seriously doubted my decision, but in the end it has always worked out. And usually better than I could have imagined.

I love this quote from the LDS President Spencer W. Kimball:

“Soul mates’ are fiction and an illusion; and while every young man and young woman will seek with all diligence and prayerfulness to find a mate with whom life can be most compatible and beautiful, yet it is certain that almost any good man and any good woman can have happiness and a successful marriage if both are willing to pay the price
(“Oneness in Marriage,” Ensign, Mar. 1977, 4).

Brian has always been willing to pay the price with me. And I'm a bit expensive at times. My tab is maxed out all the time. Still, every day with him is Valentine's Day to me.

Isn't he just so HANDSOME? Oh. My. Gosh!

An inspiring story for late starters..as was I (second time around). It's all worth it. 35 years later he is still my rock, and best friend. May you share your love forever.
