Sneak Peek at a Work in Progress

Here's a peek at what I've been up to tonight. I've only had an hour and a half or so to work, but I wanted to get started on this custom order I got before Christmas. They are turning out nicely. For a while I was having trouble with the beads smudging during the dipping and drying phase. I was losing almost half of the beads I made. Very depressing. I've started doing the dip a different way - a bit more time-consuming, but nearly 100% success-rate with the beads. Hurrah!

In other news, we got a great load of donated paperbacks at the library this afternoon. I found lots of books with good covers to turn into ornaments! Now I have to get permission to buy them from the Friends of the Library! Fortunately, they smile kindly at my requests for bizarre books (ones that they usually put in the recycling bin) and don't think too badly of me. I also asked them to start saving Readers Digest Condensed books again because I have a few ideas for some big projects that will require possibly hundreds of books. Hee hee. The Book Butcher will strike again!

Something secret and mysterious happened on Etsy tonight with my shop. I am not sure if I was on the front page or in a popular treasury, but I got six orders within 3 hours! OH MY GOSH!!! And a ton of people hearted me, too. I need to get up the courage to ask one of them how they found me, because someone needs a great big thank-you!

Your "Book Freak" necklace was a big hit with the 11 1/2 year old for Christmas. When she was putting it on this morning to wear to school she told me that grandma tried to steal it when shown how cool it was. Guess we'll have to get grandma some earrings for her next b-day!

Hurrah! And kudos to your daughter for defending her necklace. (Or is that considered disrespect to the grandma? I dunno.)

Ah HA! Now I see the method to your madness! How in the world do you dream this stuff up girlie? You always amaze me.

I'd like to think that maybe I directed small droves of people to you (I do have a blurb about you on my blog, try saying that 3x real fast ;D) but I don't think there are that many people going to my blog in the first place.

Miss you!

I love your paper beads. I can't afford to buy any but would LOVE to make myself some (sorry, but after 3 years of underemployment there isn't breathing room for extras right now). Do you have a tutorial for how you make the words appear just right? Do you print them with a laser or inkjet printer? I am scared that the ink will run. I have tons of old books and such I am trying to recycle, but I really love your word beads. How do you make the word appear just where you need them. I am really fascinated with all your work. It's pretty. Hope to be able to buy something from your etsy shop (there is so much, while I am not a librarian, I am a book-a-holic!!!) Thank you for sharing your beautiful work!
